Drink Names

Cosmopolitan. White Russian. Manhattan. Long Island.

Unless you're boring or Amish (or both,) you know that the above is a list of cocktails. Cocktails, for the most part, have fun names. Oh, sure, you've got some generic ones: gin & tonic, rum & coke, crystal light & vodka. And then you've got some that you never heard ordered on "Cheers": Sex on the Beach, Slippery Nipple, Slow Comfortable Screw Against a Wall. Fun.

There are hundreds of drinks with fun names. Check here for ones you may not have heard of before. (Do I really want to drink something called a "Jim Jones"?) My question: How does a drink name become part of the American alcohol lexicon. Is there a form I need to fill out? A nomination process? Petition?

Because I, along with the usual gang of simpleprop idiots, have some ideas.

The Waffle

Ingredients: Vanilla vodka, Bailey's, Mrs. Butterworth / Aunt Jemima. This is Al's baby, but it only exists in theory until now. If you've got the stuff, time, and stomach, mix one up and let us know.

The Assassin

Ingredients: Vodka and Jones Candy Corn Soda. Another Al creation. wadE and Chelle had a couple of cans sitting around their bar area this past Saturday, and after some wine it made sense to make a creative cocktail out of it. Verdict: Meh. Besides looking interesting (Jason noted that the color was similar to what his urine would be the next day), pretty unspectacular. A little butterscotch-y, if that helps.

The Handjob Sandwich

Ingredients: Lemonade and Captain Morgan spiced rum. This is mine, coined a few years back at a 4th of July party after a couple of rounds of angry, drunken croquet. I'm not sure about the genesis of the name, beyond that. But it suuuure is tasty. Try it sometime.

So, if anyone knows how I go about filing a booze patent, let me know. And if you've got some creatively-named cocktails that you like to drink, feel free to submit them to the Forum.
