Health Care Insurance

First off, apologies for the extended absence. Work has been... well... "work" for the past few weeks. Unfortunately I don't see that changing any time soon which means my time during the day for self-reflection and voracious web surfing is severly limited.

"Well why don't you do a gambit when you get home?", you might ask. Well, about 3 years ago I suddenly discovered after spending most of my college years and the first 5 years of my professional career on a computer day and night, I suddenly got sick of it. At home during the week and weekends I am rarely online.

But I digress...

As you may or may not know, I work in the Health Care Insurance industry, and for most folks, this time of year brings Annual Enrollment for your 2006 health care coverage. And I'll be honest with you, I have no idea what to do. Between my wife and I we have 6 different choices for coverage, with most of them being products that are called Consumer Directed Health Plans (CDHP). The idea is that the health care companies are lowering premiums, but putting the "consumer" (i.e. you) on the hook for more costs, that way you see how much it actually costs to go to the doctor as opposed to just paying your $15 copay at Urgent Care every time you get a splinter.

On one hand it's a good idea, making people more aware on the ridiculous costs doctors charge is good. On the other, it makes health care that much more complicated for us. And if someone like me who is in the industry can't figure it out, I can only imagine what most folks are going through.

Good luck to all of you, and if you can't figure it out... don't ask me...
