Talkin' Baseball

The Twins open a three game series tonight at the Metrodome against the Chicago White Sox. They'll have another three game series a week from today in Chicago.
Cheering for the Twins is par for the course around here, but these six remaining games against the Sox have taken on a bit of new interest for me. Not because
the Twins have some long shot chance of turning around their season, but merely because taking all six from the White Sox could very realistically contribute to
one of the biggest collapses in baseball history.
Couldn't happen to a better team, if you ask me.
Since June or so all I've been reading is that the Chicago White Sox were the only team in baseball that was a lock for the postseason, and once there they had
the pitching that they should be considered the favorites to win the World Series. Well let me tell you folks, a baseball season is very long, and what was
once a huge lead for the Sox in the AL Central is now down to a mere 4.5 games over the Cleveland Indians, with about 15 to play. The Indians, by the way, have the best
record in baseball since the end of July, and might manage to catch Chicago without any help from anyone at all, but I wouldn't mind watching the game where the
Twins beat the White Sox to knock them out of the lead for good. It would be a sweet note in an otherwise disappointing season.
So win, Twins. If we can't watch you in another postseason this year, it'll be some consolation that you helped keep us from having to see Chicago take your place.
