MRE: UK Style
- wadE
The British are coming, the British are coming! Well not really, but their
food is.
The British army is sending 500,000 Army ration packs to the hurricane ravaged areas here
in the US.
My favorite part of the article is: the British ration packs will no doubt be warmly welcomed.
Well, people are starving, but I'm wondering if the culinary adventurous Cajun folks of Louisana
would rather starve than eat British food.
The contents: French onion soup; Hot chocolate; Savoury biscuits; Milk chocolate; Tissues;
Cooked rice; Boiled sweets; Fruit biscuits; Chewing gum; Chicken pate; Orange drink powder;
Curried lamb; Fruit dumplings in custard; Bacon and beans; Condiments; Hot pepper sauce
Actually, that doesn't sound too terrible. I'm sure folks won't mind eating bacon and beans
for breakfast (the Brits seem to love baked beans for breakfast). I'm not exactly sure what
"Boiled sweets" entails, but it has the word 'sweet' in it, so it can't be to bad. Chicken pate
sounds not so pleasant, but it really is just a spreadable meat paste... just think if you took
chicken salad, and put it in a blender.
The more I think about it, these are probably better than any US MRE (Meals Ready to Eat); which
really shouldn't come as a suprise since the British Army is more known for its style than it's
fighting prowess. :-)
