In 1988 the following words were penned and put into a song that would be part of a critically acclaimed album:

Religion and sex are powerplays
Manipulate the people for the money they pay
Selling skin, selling God
The numbers look the same on their credit cards
Politicians say no to drugs
While we pay for wars in South America

[On tour in 1991, this was changed to Saudi Arabia]

Fighting fire with empty words
While the banks get fat
And the poor stay poor
And the rich get rich
And the cops get paid
To look away
As the one percent rules America

It's seventeen years later, do those lyrics still apply? Well, I think you'd have your head pretty far in the sand if you didn't note some similarities. Let's hope that we can look back in another seventeen years and see some significant change.
