RIP Peter Jennings
- Alex
As cynical as I get about the national news outlets in this country sometimes, I always left an exception open for Peter Jennings. I'm not sure if I could
even put my finger on what it was that he had that just didn't bother me. Maybe it was that I can remember watching him on the news growing up - and sure, maybe
I wondered in my youth why I'd want to care about all this news he was reporting that didn't happen in America, but he was always there, telling you what was happening
in the world in his calm, measured voice. Years later I'd tune back in after 9/11, to watch Peter log what seemed to be seven hundred consecutive hours on air,
covering this generation's "where were you when?" moment. I won't say it was calming, but it was good to hear news from a voice I associated with News.
Peter Jennings died on Sunday. He was 67 years young.
There are obituaries at just about any online news site you can think of. I suggest going and reading a few of them. The one at the NY Times is especially good.
