Sports in General

I went to a St Paul Saints game and all I got were these lousy sunburned kneecaps.

(And I'm not kidding about the sunburn, either. Ouch.)

It's not that I'm knocking the experience, but when mediocre baseball is combined with seriously oppressive heat, it's not exactly my ideal Sunday. And it got me to thinking once again that what I enjoy about sports is the sense of wonder that I feel when I see grown men doing things that I just flat out cannot do. Granted, I probably couldn't do many of the things I saw yesterday, but it certainly didn't leave me in awe at any point, either.

Does that make me different from other sports nuts? Are a certain percentage of people at any given sporting event there just for a chance to go out drinking with their friends? You tell me. On a nicer day I probably would have enjoyed the simple experience of sitting outside lazily watching a baseball game. But then that would be more about the sitting outside than about the baseball.

I don't really have a point to all this, but it does make me have second thoughts about the proposed Twins stadium. I think maybe that I would've rather been indoors watching the Twins yesterday, than outdoor watching the Saints. Definitely food for thought.
