Town Hall
- Wade
I've just returned from a town hall meeting featuring the head of Global Technology and Operations for RBC Financial Group. Rah Rah RBC!!!
I learned a great deal of things at this particular meeting. They're all so very valuable, I thought I'd share:
- First, I confirmed that I've got my Dad's palate for crap like this. Please just let me go back to my desk and get something done.
- Technology needs "infastructure," not "infrastructure."
- Evidence that you hear second-hand is "antidotal," not "anecdotal."
- This man's crutch buzzword was "with respect to." (Okay, it's a buzzphrase, but you get the point." In 20 minutes of speaking, he said "with respect to" 19 times.
- Below is apparently an acceptable way to announce upcoming layoffs:
- Oh, and "lose people" is the politically correct term for layoff.
Isn't that great? What's more, they gave out free cookies at the end of the meeting. I didn't take one, having visions of Jamestown dancing in my head.
But what an amazing and effective use of time. I hope people from Toronto come down more often to tell us how valuable we are right before saying we're likely going to get the ki-bosh. Go RBC!!!!
