To fold or not to fold?

Editor's note: Not our house
I have always been surprised at how well my best friend knows me. She always picks the perfect gift; she can pick out my favorite thing in a store before I even know what it is; and she remembers everything about the Barbie house my dad made for me when we were little. So, I was quite surprised when she didn?t know that I?m a messy person. We were having a casual conversation about her brother?s girlfriend, about how messy this particular girl happens to be and my friend says ?she?s, you know, the kind of person who doesn?t fold their underwear before putting it in the drawer.? She said this as if it is something to be ashamed of, something I should be ashamed of, because, little does she know, I am the kind of person who doesn?t fold their underwear before putting it in the drawer.
This got me to thinking?there are two kinds of people: those who fold their underwear when putting away the laundry, and those who do not. As I stated earlier, I am the latter. I know I am not alone. At the very least I have my friend?s brother?s girlfriend on my side. I also know that I?m married to a folder. I always know when he has put the laundry away (other than the fact that it?s put away and I didn?t do it) because my panties are folded nicely in their drawer.
I think this affliction is a metaphor for my life. I like things to look neat, appear clean and tidy. I run around like a crazy person before guests arrive making sure that everything is dusted and nothing is out of place. But hidden in drawers and in closets is mess, clutter, chaos. I?m not an organized person, I just want everyone to think I am. So, my secret is out. Perhaps on the forum you can fess up as well.
If you?ll excuse me, I need to get going. We?re having company tomorrow and I can?t let them see the house like this!
