The Curious Incident...
- Alex
I'd like to first point out that Wade and I suck at prognostication.
I'd like to then point out that wadE's a big baby. He got an additional two hours
of snoring time flat on his back in the airport terminal. Although I will concede that he needs a lot more sleep than I do, so we were probably just about
equally sleep-deprived yesterday. The second day's always the worst, though. So welcome to a sleepy Tuesday.
Speaking of the airport terminal, I figured I wasn't gonna be able to sleep anyway, so I bought a book from the airport Borders. I bought:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. It's apparently well-regarded, critically at least. Well, I'm here to tell you that it's the
Forrest Gump of books. I have a feeling that most people are going to be gushing about what an uplifting story this is, when really all we're talking
about is a story told by a person with special needs that really doesn't go very deep at all.
Now that may be a little harsh. I loathed Gump, but I did enjoy this book in parts. I think the main character was fairly well done, and the story took a
couple of decent turns... but other than that there's just not a whole lot to it. It's not a bad purchase at paperback price, per se, but you're better off
borrowing it from a friend. Speaking of which, if anyone wants this, you know how to find me.
I'm out. If you're all really good to me, we might have a "Best of the Gambits" Award column coming in the next week or so. We'll see.
