Gambit Odds and Ends
- Alex
Gambit? What's a gambit? Heh heh.
I'm back, and I'm sure you all missed me. I need to ease my way back into this, though, so I'm gonna tackle a couple of easy subjects today.
First up, a quick review of the NFL. Five weeks ago, I wrote a Gambit bemoaning the
parity in the NFL, especially in the craptacular NFC. You'd think that in five weeks that things would have shaken out, right? Well... almost. Each conference
is pretty much down to its last playoff spot... but things are still plenty interesting.
In the AFC, the Patriots, Steelers, Chargers, and Colts are all already in, and the Jets just need one more win to clinch. For the last spot, the Bills, Ravens,
Jaguars, and Broncos are all 8-6, and have a shot. See, this is exciting - these teams are all pretty good. I wish I could say the same for the NFC. The
Eagles, Falcons, and Packers are in. The Vikings just need to win one more and they're in. They could still be in even if they don't. The Seahawks will be in
if they win their last two. They could still be in even if they don't win another game. For the record, those two teams have records of 8-6 and 7-7, respectively.
The Panthers, Saints, and Rams are all 6-8, and still realistic contenders. There are seven teams that could finish 7-9 and one of them could make
the playoffs. One of them could even win their division! Ugh.
I'm sure things will shake themselves out pretty well, and the playoffs are shaping up to be really good. But for right now, things are still pretty
ridiculous in the NFL.
And finally, a quick recap of the always entertaining site statistics. Over the weekend, our most search hits came from... cupcakes...? Unfortunately
for whoever's looking, the only article I can think of with cupcakes in it is the MEEF article. Ha. The really exciting news comes in the monthly report, where
there's a new battle for search hit top dog. Barney Fife is battling it out with NFL playoff predictions for the monthly crown, with long-time
champ Sue Bird running a distant fourth. Honorable mention goes to the most interesting hits: Comedy Sausages, and Reuben Dip, although
sadly for the latter, that's probably also going to point you to MEEF.
Alright, I'm out. Happy Monday. Hope you've got an industrial strength ice scraper if you live around here.
