Because I'm basically lazy, let's go with the obvious story today: Vikings win.

Not just "win," though. The Vikings completely toasted Dallas yesterday at Metrodome, at least after the first quarter. Against the supposed number one defense in the NFL, Daunte tossed five TDs, scrambled when needed, and called a couple of sweet and successful audibles. Onterrio "Cause I Got High" Smith looked great, too-- if he had laid off the hash brownies he might challenge incumbent Michael Bennett for the starting RB job. Moss only caught four passes, but two of those were for TDs. More importantly, Randy caught one of those TDs in front of Cowboys d-back Terence Newman one play after Newman pushed him down, jumped on top of him, and repeatedly humped his face-- in front of two refs. How is that not a penalty?

Now, it's well-established that I'm a baseball rube, and would prefer a Cubs-Braves playoff game over a Vikings-Packers game on any given October Sunday. But this is a football town, and watching a decisive Vikings victory with a large group of folks is exciting. Jason and I took in yesterday's matchup from Champp's on West 7th St. in Saint Paul, seated amongst some serious Vikings fans (John Randle jerseys, beads, etc.) So that was fun.

I'll never again be as "into" football as I was in 1992-- when my day consisted of watching pre-game at 11:00, the noon game, the 3:00 game, Prime Time at 6:00, and the 7:00 game-- but if the Vikings continue to put up 35 points a game, I may be more tempted to switch away from that Marlins-Giants series next month.
