Rev 105

How do I miss Rev 105... let me count the ways...
I listened to nothing but Rev 105 during my first year in college. It was the best
radio station I had ever heard...which isn't saying much considering the radio choices
in Austin Minnesota, but nevertheless, it was fantastic. When they switched formats, I
love that they played REM's "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"
over and over again for a whole weekend.
Then X-105 took over. Which really wasn't that bad, but certain was no Revolution
Radio.
For more on that, check here.
At any rate, X-105 became 93X, and then we had Zone 105...which was again, just ok.
Now we have Drive 105... which isn't much improvement over Zone, but alas, probably
the FM station I listen to the most. Probably because it is the station my alarm clock
is set to in the mornings. If I could only combine about 3 different stations
into one, we'd have something worth listening to.
My complaint with Drive 105 (besides their commercials saying how they "are not owned
and operated by Clear Channel Communications) is what seems to be their limited playlist.
If Cities 97 didn't play some much slow plodding crap, I'd probably listen to them instead.
Over the past 3 months, since those are the months I've actually had to get up to an
alarm clock this year (I know I know... I don't expect you to cry me a river), I feel
like I've been waking up to the same handful of songs.
First, "Joey" by Concrete Blonde. I swear 2 months ago this song was on 4 of the 5
mornings I got up.
Second, "Float On" by Modest Mouse. A new band on the scene, but they had a gig coming
up at the Fineline and so they were pumped pretty hard. If it wasn't the song that was
one when I woke up, it was the song that was on when my Snooze was over. Constantly on,
followed by the obligatory plug of their show...for 2 straight months!
"Sell Out" by The Mighty Mighty Boss....er, I mean, Real Big Fish. I always think
this song is by the Bosstones...probably because there is a lot of horns in the song. But
I should always remember that there isn't enough yelling in the song to be the Bosstones.
"Should I Stay Or Should I Go" by The Clash. Classic song. A staple of any
Best Intentions (Rock and Roll Band) gig. Although they could never get the "*achoo*
bless you" part quite right. Probably because it was the 3rd or 4th set and the entire
band was shitfaced. Anyway, this song, or any of the others from that early era of what
we are now calling "Alternative Rock"... or what is really the tamer side of punk, is
another one I wake up to.
The last one being anything by Jack Johnson.
Of course all of this is better than waking up to Anthrax.
