Twins Win
- Alex
Last night... approxmately 6:30 in the PM... I walk into the bathroom at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome...
and there's not a soul in sight! It was trough-ful bliss, I tells ya.
Anyway, not long before that, I saw something that was both a little frightening, and kinda cute (but not quite at
the same time). The Rangers are taking BP, and I'm out in left-field, but a good 18-20 rows up, so mostly out of danger.
And then suddenly, one of the 'gers just absolutely crushes one. I can tell it's going a long way, but it's left of me.
Folks are yelling "heads up!", and there's a guy with a glove standing up right about where it's gonna land. Not a
big deal. Except that the ball sails over the guy's head, and nails a poor woman who isn't paying attention and talking
to her friends... right in the arm. Thankfully. It could've been a lot worse.
About 15 seconds later, what looks to be about a 9 year old boy goes running past me with a ball, yelling to his
mom:
The ball hit that lady in the arm! She said she didn't want it!
First of all, it was really cute. Maybe you had to be there. Second... the kid had to have at least taken the time
to ask the woman "Can I have this?" if not "Do you want this?". I know a fair handful of adults who wouldn't even
pause to consider that. It was just cool all-around.
30 seconds after that, another ball landed exactly four seats to the right of the same woman. At least she was paying
attention for that one.
Casey-ism of the night:
We all know that the Twins PA announcer is prone to mis-speak from time to time. Last night's victim: Rangers
catcher Rod Barajas. During the announcing of the opening lineups, he was presented as:
Batting 9th for the Rangers, the Catcher, Rod Bar-harris!
Good times. And then Torii sent us home in the 11th with a homerun that landed not far from where the BP Zone of
Death was 5 hours previously. Even better times. And of course, there was the fun of watching the Indians' total
score on the out-of-town scoreboard just go up and up and up...
It was a good night. Win Twins!
