To the stars...

This article
on yesterday's startribune.com fascinated me.
Like many kids, I grew up dreaming of visiting space. Stepping foot on the moon.
Being the first to step foot on another planet.
I was sad when I grew too tall to be an astronaut (the height limit has changed in recent
years from 5'11" to 6'4").
I was jealous when Judge Ito (whatever that billionair guy's name was) spent $20 million
to go to the international space station. I shook my head when that idiot Lance Bass
tried to become a cosmonaut...and laughed heartily when he failed.
It didn't seem fair that only millionaires could afford a trip...and I thought that
might be the case for my lifetime...but maybe not.
How much would I pay to fly into outer space... $20,000... $50,000... $100,000 ...
probably. Of course $100,000 in 2030 dollars is probably only $30,000 today. :-)
But for all of us non-millionaires who find ourselves earth-bound, yesterday's
story gave us a little hope.
