Levity in Sadness

Another day, another story body of a teenage girl found in the woods in rural Minnesota. I'm going to have to work very hard at allowing my daughter out of the house... when she gets old enough to walk, of course. I truly think that the sick bastards that do stuff like this should not get off with the death penalty. They should have their genitals burned and then removed with a dull table knife. They should then be put into the most sexually abusive block in prison, forced to endure daily what they did to their victim.

But that's just me on a Monday.

While this story disturbs the hell out of me (and I promised I wouldn't read the news ever again) there are a couple of lines from the Strib story that made me smile, briefly.

Crow Wing County Sheriff Eric Klang said he was surprised that so many people volunteered recent searches, "especially on the fishing opener," which was Saturday.

Only in Minnesota would you see that statement.

Bob Heales, a Denver private investigator, said that his private search party had "good cooperation" from the property owners, but that Myears' grandfather "turned on a manure spreader and basically covered one of the squad cars" Sunday morning after the remains had been found.

Huh. Great visual. Incidentally, he was arrested for that little act of civil disobedience.

Thank God for manure spreaders, or else this would be just another depressing news day.
