A Mini-Ramble
- Alex
Got a bit of a grab-bag goin' on this morning. Let's hop to it.
Disney is refusing to distribute Michael Moore's new film, Farenheit 9/11 (catchy title, I say). You can click
here to read Moore's own words on the issue, but what it
comes down to is that Disney doesn't want to be controversial, and especially doesn't want to bite the hand that gives it massive corporate
tax breaks. Nice. Say what you will about Mr. Moore - of course his films are slanted - everything is slanted - but at least he is out
there trying to make people think.
I took this test, which take your beliefs and tells you which presidential candidate (even
the one's who've dropped out, if you wish) best represents these views. One thing I quickly learned is that I'm still quite a bit behind on even
knowing what some of these issues are, let alone what to think of them. Nevertheless, out of my ideal candidate, Nader was 76%, and Kerry 57%.
The Shrub Regime? Kickin' it down there in the basement, in dead last, at 19%. It figures. He's even below something called Dr. John Hagelin,
your Natural Law Party candidate!
Finally, here's an excerpt from this
article in the SF Chronicle, covering the ceremony for footballer/soldier Pat Tillman:
Family's farewell: During Monday's memorial for Pat Tillman in San Jose, some relatives displayed the same free-spirited style as the fallen soldier who gave up a million-dollar NFL career to become an Army Ranger.
Rich Tillman appeared to be toasting Pat with his big brother's favorite beverage -- a foamy pint of Guinness beer -- when he took a sip and said, "Thanks, Pat,'' as he rose to address to the 3,500 mourners at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden.
"I didn't write (blip) because I'm not a writer,'' young Tillman said, choking up. "I'm not just going to sit here and break down on you. But thanks for coming. Pat's a (blipping) champion and always will be.''
What followed may have stunned those accustomed to solemn memorials.
"Just make no mistake, he'd want me to say this: He's not with God. He's (blipping) dead,'' Rich Tillman said. "He's not religious. So, thanks for your thoughts, but he's (blipping) dead.''
Wow. Well, for those of you tracking the bleeps, that's: shit, fucking, fucking, and fucking, respectively. That said, hats off to the little
brother for speaking loud and clear. If he knew Pat well enough to know that's how he felt, then bravo. It's always good to hear someone speak
the truth.
