Girls Don't Make Passes
- Wade
I couldn't read for more than 30 minutes without a migraine-like headache. My head would throb, I'd throw down my book or magazine and wonder what was happening. Did I have a tumor? It couldn't be my vision, the words weren't blurry on the page. Besides, I've always had perfect vision.
I got desperate after ignoring my homework for almost two weeks. At my wife's urging, I went to Vision World for my first-ever eye checkup. The verdict? My long-range vision, while far from Stevie Wonder-like, wasn't as good as I thought. Gah. I really wasn't so sure, though. I'd never had trouble seeing anything. I found frames that were small and subtle, and we headed home to wait the requisite 7-10 days for my specs to show up.
Monday was the day. The results were striking, noticed before we even got out of Southdale... everything was so *clear*. Things in the distance that were always blurry and or fuzzy were now sharp, focused. My sight was bad all along, but I just had nothing to compare it to. Every day I'm surprised by how much better I can see things.
Getting used to plastic (albeit light) sitting constantly on my face? Still adjusting. I feel a little goofy, still. I don't know if I'm a contact lens sort of guy, so I might need to just grow accustomed to seeing the world through subtle rectangles.
