Back To Good
- Wade
Most of the time I'm astounded by the Internet. The latest website to impress me is nwa.com, where I'm able to check into my flight and pick my seat, all via the web. How this links into the complex airline computer (likely mainframe) system I have no idea. But it's great.
Naturally, with the good comes the bad. Specifically, the virus that infected my computer on Saturday. Thanks to Al, you can read about it here. You might notice that there's no instructions on how to fix this particular infection. That's because there isn't one, really. At least not yet.
What does that mean for our hero? Well, I'm going to try to at least get the irreplaceable stuff off of it-- e-mails, documents, and such. And if there's still no fix? I'm headed straight for the Macintosh store at Southdale. Sara and I use our computer for three things: web surfing, word processing, and spreadsheets. (I'm a listmaker.) This can be done just as easily on a Mac, for less money and more stability. Oh, and no one really creates viruses specifically for Macs.
It's fitting, that my Dell should come to such a poor end. I bought it in 1999 because I thought Apple was on the way out-- even though I was a Mac zealot in college, I thought I'd seen the future, and it was Bill Gates.
Not so much anymore.
