Rantin' Time
- Alex
So I get a link in the ol' email today (note: use the forum so we can all play along). It seems NBC is editing an episode of ER in
which you catch a brief glimpse of a patient's breast, because of fallout from the whole Janet Jackson/Super Bowl escapade (pun
intended). Never mind the fact that ER is a dramatic show that already contains a warning for adult content. Never mind the fact that
the episode would be airing late at night. Never mind the fact that ER isn't a "family" event like the Super Bowl. For now, and
for the near future, boobs on TV are taboo.
Why?
I don't understand the moral repressiveness of this country. We are in an age and a position to be the most enlightened culture
in history. We could embrace an open culture where we treat our kids with respect and teach them about virture at the same time as
we teach them about sexuality, and the risks inherent with intercourse and how to prevent them. We could teach our kids about
moderation as we talk about safe behavior with regards to alcohol consumption.
Instead we just say everything is bad, that it's not right to educate, only to deny and complain. Nudity is bad! Alcohol is bad!
No normal person shall indulge in them! Everyone who does is bad!
All this while Jackson's breast is the most TIVO'ed moment ever.
It's time to stop the denial, and get working on making America better. That Jackson showed a breast isn't bad. Let's talk about
what's implied by a man ripping off her top...
