Re-branding
- wadE
Last Sunday I got up early and wandered downstairs to eat breakfast in front of the TV. As I tried
to resist playing SOCOM online I flipped through the wasteland that is Sunday morning television
(or televizzle as Snoop would say).
As I surfed I came across and old favorite. The Ronco Showtime Rotisserie infomercial. (Set it...
and Forget It!) We all should know Ron Popeil. He's been hawking crap for years, like the pocket
fisherman, dehydrators, or everyone's favorite, the hair in a can spray!
After 20 plus years of inventing crap, Ron finally hit the big one. The rotisserie is actually a
pretty decent product. It was a staple in my house until we got the gigantic George Foreman Grill.
However, the rotisserie still makes appearances at the holidays and large dinner parties.
Anyway, the geniuses over at Ronco have caught on to America's fascination with the Atkins diet.
Sidebar: while I don't disagree with the chemistry behind the diet, it would seem the long term
affects of eating bacon, eggs, and cheese for every meal would outweigh (pun!) the short term weight
loss the diet provides. Of course tell the average american that he can eat all the meat, cheese,
and butter he wants and still lose weight...sounds like gold to me! Also, I know two people who
have done Atkins, both of whom had gall bladder problems. One of which had to have emergency surgery
less than two weeks after starting the diet. What is so wrong with conditioning yourself to eat
two to three bites less each meal, and getting in some more walking?
But I digress...the Ronco people have rebranded the rotisserie as the perfect kitchen appliance for
all of you Atkins people! They have pretty much taken the same infomercial, but plugged in some
extra footage of another well known informercial host specifically talking about how the rotisserie is
great for: (cut back to original infomercial) hambergers, whole chickens, restaurant style prime rib, racks of lamb, and almost everyone's
favorite... BBQ ribs!
Um, note to Ronco, BBQ sauce has lots of carbs in it.
And now for something completely different...
Random website that was sent to me: "If you were a company called Powergen, what would you name
your italian affiliate? In the corporate world they apparently do not type in the URL before
assigning names because they named it powergenitalia for Powergen Italia."
