Things I Think I Think
- Wade
It's been a meeting-filled morning and, per usual, the Daily Gambit has been the object of my neglect. So to pay homage to cnnsi.com's Peter King, here are my quick-hit thoughts from the weekend:
10. Vikings? Done. I didn't watch the game, and I'm thankful that I didn't. If it weren't for apt (and lucky) plays by the defense at the end of the fourth quarter last week, the team would be 0-6 in their last six games. What happened, Tice? Oh yeah, you started to play good teams.
9. 70 days until pitchers and catchers report!
8. I don't care if they were *giving away* DVD players, there's no way I would have gone near a shopping center Friday morning. I work best under pressure, meaning that I purchase most gifts the week of Christmas. That way there are only men like me going up and down the aisles. It's easier that way.
7. Related note: Wal-Mart says that it took in $1.52 billion on Friday. That makes me a little ill. I wish Christmas could be less material-focused. Keeps the economy running, though, I suppose.
6. Al is a lucky $#&*#er in Trivial Pursuit.
5. U.S. Rep Bill Janklow, accused of several traffic violations that resulted in the death of a South Dakotan resident last August, should resign. He was speeding, ran through a stop sign, hit and killed a motorcyclist... and couldn't even get the victim's name right in a September news conference. And after that, he became defensive with media members who asked him about his prior speeding violations. It shouldn't be surprising, given that he's a career politician who is used to being coddled. Term limits, people.
4. This is good for a laugh.
3. So here's what I take from the Bush administration news briefs on Iraq from last week: we're leaving the country in June so it can be governed solely by the coalition authority. Except, of course, unless we're still needed. And they accuse Democrats of talking out of both sides of their mouths. Must be an election year.
2. Must be an election year redux: a Republican President, along with a Republican-controlled House, just passed an entitlements bill that expands Medicare coverage at the tune of $400 billion. Compassionate conservatives, right?
1. Anyone who says "at the end of the day" without specifically referring to something that will occur at the *end* of *this* day should be beaten with a car-battery-sized block of cheese.
