Two-bit opinions.

So Mike Greenberg is outraged. Or maybe that's just jealousy
talking. Or maybe he's just another dumb sports radio jock who saw a simple opportunity to invoke some righteous indignation, and
managed to pound out a webpage with his thumbs. As Fox's election coverage would implore you, you choose.
Whatever the reason, he's upset that two writers left Hideki Matsui off their ballots for baseball's Rookie of the Year award,
because those writers felt he shouldn't qualify as a rookie. Greenberg is rightfully upset at the idea of those two writers
making up their own criteria in opposition to those posted by MLB. However, let's face it, a similar scenario plays out with every
vote cast for MVP, and I doubt I'll hear him calling for any writers to lose their votes. So perhaps he's just a little too worked up
about this subject in general... or maybe that's what you have to do to be on the radio these days - be over-the-top controversial. See
how well it worked for Rush?
What really bothers me, though, is that he actually compared Matsui to Jackie Robinson, who won the ROY award after coming over
from the Negro Leagues. It's a cute little argument, but it has a big flaw. Huge, really. You see, Robinson was prohibited
from playing in the major leagues before then, because of the color of his skin. Matsui wasn't. Matsui could have come over here as
an 18 year old and gone through the minors and been a true rookie (in the normal sense). To compare the two of them in that way demeans
what Robinson (and Larry Doby, and countless others) had to go through.
So look at me, I'm outraged too! I should call for Mike to resign, shouldn't I? Well, an apology will do. Thanks Mike.
