Finding Nemo

I went to see the latest from Disney and Pixar this weekend, Finding Nemo. For those of you who want a short, short review, it's like this: Oh yeah!

I suppose I should say that there hasn't been a Pixar movie that I haven't liked. In fact, A Bug's Life and Monsters, Inc. are two of my favorite movies. I'm not going to tell you that Nemo is the best of the lot, but it is good. Damn good.

Quick synopsis: Marlon, who's a clown-fish, is afraid of the sea (and for good reason, but I don't wanna spoil anything). His son, Nemo, in an act of childish rebellion, swims out into open water, and is caught by divers. Marlon sets out to find him, and escapades ensue.

This movie lacks the superstar voices of their other offerings (No Tim Allen, Billy Crystal, Tom Hanks, etc...), but that only means there isn't anyone who's voice you instantly recognize, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Willem Dafoe, and Stephen Root all do great work in this one. DeGeneres, in particular, I never would have guessed it was her.

The real story in Nemo, though, is the sea. Absolutely superb animation.

And hey, it's funny! And cute. Definitely one Trent.

Couple of extra notes: Who does John Ratzenberger know? He's been in every Pixar movie so far. It's good work, and I like his characters, too. Finally, since Ash Potatoes and I also watched Monsters this weekend, we noticed that at the end... where Sully is taking Boo back to her room, she hands him a bunch of her toys... and one of them is a little Nemo toy. Forward thinking by those Pixar folks. Very clever.

I'm out. Happy Monday.
