Second Season
- Alex
It's official, we've hit Minnesota's second season.
(You see, there's an old Norweigan joke proclaiming there to be two seasons in our state - Winter, and Road Construction. It'd be funny if it
weren't so true.)
For the past week or so I've been assaulted on my drive home by giant flashing signs that say "Starting May 5th - Expect Delays". Great. On the
one hand, it's nice of them to say anything instead of just springing a surprise half-hour delay on all of us. On the other hand, a bit more
information would be nice.
So, like any self-respecting geek, I hit up the state DOT webpage. (Geek note, if you read the page location aloud you get to say the word "dot"
three times in a row. It's fantastic.) Turns out there'll be two lanes closed (out of three) each way on my route home for the month of May. I'd
definitely expect a delay out of that. So, I guess it's a month of the Crosstown out (bleh, I'm goin' to work early for that one) and 110/55 home
(double bleh, horrible interchange at 55/Snelling) for me. That's still waaaay better than last year, though.
And on the plus side, this is the only project that will affect me this summer. Score! If you wanna check out the metro area yourself, click
here.
On a related note, could we pass a state law forcing truckers to clean off their flat-bed trucks so that they don't throw rocks at you at 70MPH?
As a new recipient of a cracked windshield, I'd be all for it...
All right, I know, Vanilla Gambit... but it's all I got. I'll be more entertaining on Thursday, I promise.
