Let's *yawn* Go Wolves!

Let's try this reasoning on for size:

Every year, you'll hear baseball criticized for starting a playoff game (typically the World Series) so late that kids on the East Coast - which is, after all, the media and cultural center of the known universe - can only see an inning or two of the game. This, in turn, is supposed to have diluted baseball's fan base to the point that kids don't care about it any longer.

I can only wonder how many kids were even awake for the start of last night's Lakers/Timberwolves NBA matchup. Three of the best players in the league (KG, Kobe, and Shaq), the defending champion Lakers, and the game doesn't start until 11PM in the East? You tell me which league is shooting itself in the foot. Regular season MLB games don't start that late, and they're catering to the local market!

Come to think of it, regular season NBA games don't start that late, either. I just don't get it.

That said, it doesn't bother me as a general rule sort of thing... after all, I'm the one who got up (or stayed up) to watch the 2, 4, and 6AM games during the World Cup last summer - early morning fatigue countered by a jolt of coffee is my lifestyle. I am amused, though, that the normally rabid media hasn't had anything to say on this front. Maybe they just don't care as much about basketball as they do about baseball.

Oh wait, that's how it should be.
