Go Wild!
- wadE
For those of you who pay attention to hockey you know that one of the big stories of this year's playoffs
was the Minnesota Wild's victory over the Colorado Avalanche in overtime of game 7.
Going into the series Colorado took us very lightly, which was evident in how they played their game and how
their local media viewed the Wild. In particular several people took offense to what Mark Kiszla (a sports
writer for the Denver Post) had to say about the Wild.
"After watching the hideous Minnesota Wild for two games, you don't know whether to spit or take a shower."
"Colorado defenseman Adam Foote was asked how much difference in talent exists between a higher-seeded team
such as the Avs and these gritty little muckers who wipe their snotty noses on Wild sweaters. He replied:
'I could get myself in a lot of trouble if I told you the truth. So I'll just be politically correct. I could
get in a lot of trouble if I said what I really wanted to say.'"
"But Foote, you and I all know the ugly truth. Minnesota does not belong on the same ice as the Avalanche."
What a dick this guy is...which of course made our victory all the sweeter. Even in defeat Mr. Kiszler
maintains the the Wild "have no business being on the same ice" with the Avalanche.
So I decided to let him know my thoughts on the matter:
Hubris: (hyoo'-bris) Overbearing pride or presumption; arrogance

Mr. Kiszla,
If I were to pick one word to sum up you and your Avalanche, it would have
to be hubris.
You first assert that the Wild have no chance against your mighty
Avalanche, then in defeat you bitterly lash out that the wild had no
business being on the same ice with your cherished team.
How pathetic and sad it is that you feel that way. The Wild are a quality
team that exemplifies all that is good about hockey and sports (regardless
of how you feel about their defensive style). They are a team in the
truest sense. While the Avs pour all their money in world class (yet
aging) veterans, the Wild spend wisely, focus on the talents of each
player, and put them in a position to succeed.
The Wild had earned the right to share the same ice with the Avs, and for
every post and bad bounce you and your team cry about I can point one out
that went against the Wild. They were simply out-coached and out-played.
Now after it's all said and done it is your Avs that have no business
sharing the same ice with the Wild.
Enjoy the off-season!
