This, that, and your mother
- Alex
A couple incredibly random things for the gambit today.
First of all, Rickey Henderson is going to sign a contract with an independent baseball team in New Jersey. I assume he plans to keep busy in
case a professional team needs him later in the year. Normally I'd be yawning like crazy at this point, but there's something I didn't realize.
He's 44. I had no idea. I mean, I knew he was old, but this is just crazy. We really do live in an amazing time, when we can look at a 44 year
old ballplayer and think that he's still fast enough to play a professional sport. I know he's faster than me. I don't really like Rickey,
but it's still cool.
Changing gears...
Vocabulary time. On the car ride to work this morning... well, I have no idea what I was thinking about, but it got to the point where I was
wondering what the difference is between tantamount and paramount. If you were wondering that too (who doesnt?!), I'm here to help.
Courtesy of my trusty Macintosh Dictionary:
Tantamount. (adj) Equivalent in effect or value: a request tantamount to a demand.
Paramount. (adj) 1. Of chief concern or importance: tending first to one's paramount needs.
2. Supreme in rank, power, or authority. See Synonyms at dominant.
And, a bonus word, since my dictionary by default gives synonyms as well:
Climacteric. (adj) A critical stage, period, or year.
Tonight's Wild game is definitely a climacteric.
Just more words that I'll pull out of my butt with correct usage, but have no idea what they mean. Kinda like gambit. I'm out.
