Idiots

I too have committed petty vandalism in the past...and concede that when you are drunk, it sounds like a really good idea.

But never has it occured to me to that setting a dumpster on fire or flipping over cars or attacking police was a good idea.

But it sounded like a hell of a good time to a couple thousand idiots decided to trash Dinkytown (for those non-MN readers, that's an area near the University of Minnesota campus) after the Gopher's trouncing of New Hampshire in the NCAA Hockey Championship.

Not that I would condone it, but I understand the people in New Hampshire rioting after the game, which they did, but they didn't have nearly as many people involved or as much damage done. (Yeah, we can beat them on the ice and in the streets too! Go Gophers!) After your team loses, you get pretty upset, and you are probably drunk as hell, and you wanna break something... But after winning? What goes on in your head that says "Yeah! We won! We are the champs! Let's go burn something!"

On another topic...

I too have wished I could go smack an umpire who has made a bad call...but isn't that the manager's job? Apparently not in Chicago where some idiot ran onto the field yesterday and tried to attack the 1st base umpire during a White Sox vs. Royals game.

For those of you who don't remember, this is the same field in which a father-son team ran onto the field seven months ago and attacked the Royals first base coach.

Even the bleacher bums in Yankee Stadium don't do this... of course it's not possible to get onto the field from right field bleachers in Yankee Stadium without falling 20 feet and then climbing a fence.

But I digress...what is it that goes through a person's mind that attacking an umpire, setting a dumpster on fire, flipping over someone's car is a good idea?

Must be the alcohol...which is a shame... it give us non-violent drunkards a bad name.
