War Coverage
- Alex
If I could ask just one thing of the US News Media while they're covering this war... could we stop reporting Allied casualties like
they're the worst tragedy ever to befall a nation? Please?
Because here's the thing, and there's really no getting around this one: We're at war!
We've gone into another country, and started shooting and bombing them, and are trying to take their land. Yes, our intent is to give it back
to them under a new ruler, but it's a very fine line to be walking. We've been doing this for five days now, and based on the reports I've seen,
total Allied casualties are under 50 lives.
I would think, given the recent history of US Military action in foreign countries (ahem, Vietnam), that this might be a relatively positive
news item - the war is going well. Most certainly, mourn any loss of life... but if our overall position is support of this war, then we should
be prepared for the worst, and celebrate that things are going so well so far.
We should not be reporting Allied casualties and mistakes like we've found fucking evidence of price fixing at the grocery store.
Maybe I'm missing the point here... or maybe I just don't watch enough reality TV. I just don't understand US culture any more...
