Here and There

Morning. My mind is in many places today, so I'll take you on a brief tour.
Firstly, and most importantly, I have Kenny Loggins trapped in my head. No, not "Footloose." Not "Danger Zone" either. Not even the catchy "I'm Alright."
I'm going all the way
Sooner or later, gotta love somebody
I don`t care how long it takes
Like a shot to the heart, I've got news for you
I may not look so smart, but I`m nobody's fool
Yup, "Nobody's Fool," the theme from Caddyshack II. I'm truly unsure how that got in there, I haven't seen that movie in over a decade. What a truly awful sequel. If anyone can help exorcise this demon, please let me know. Soon.
In other news, Minneapolis may be shutting down three of its community libraries. This comes on top of the news that there may not actually be enough funding to build the new central (downtown) library. Oooops. Well, I guess they'll just move the books back from the interim library to the old library. Double-ooops. It's almost completely torn down. My thought: keep it in the interim space, at the old Federal Reserve building. It's connected to the Skyway, anyway.
Oh, and did I mention that Metro Transit is doing away with my bus route? And that they're increasing the round trip fare from $4.50 to $5.50 starting July 1st? Guess I'm back to driving to work.
When browsing the SI website before work, I discovered their feature for this week's issue is a story on the downfall of Kirby Puckett. Although they only show a snippet on the site, it looks like it'll be a hatchet job-- I guess I expected more from SI and the story's author, Frank DeFord. The main sources for the story are Puckett's ex-wife and his scorned mistress. You could argue that the notion of Minnesota's most beloved sports icon having a mistress is worth an article in itself. But SI does the National Enquirer thing and turns it into a spectacle, while printing the allegations of two people that have an obvious ax to grind against Kirby. How much of their stories are true? Maybe more than I think, but this tactic seems below the usual quality standards of SI.
Just in from the Why-I-Can't-Stand-Shaquille-O'Neal department... after losing to the Bulls by 17 on Tuesday night, Kazaam had this to say:
"We made their year," O'Neal said. "I'm going to take the blame for that game. I had a slow night. I missed a lot of shots and really couldn't get into it."
Of course you made their night, you jerk. It's everyone's career dream to beat a 35-27 team. It had nothing to do with Eddy Curry or Tyson Chandler having good nights, it's because Shaq had a slow night. Egotistical ass.
I hate the NBA.
Finally, assuming the Dems get their house in order in the next year (big assumption), I think they've got a good chance at the White House in '04. Dubya's insatiable quest for war in Iraq, bound with a continually-tanking economy, will start to wear thin soon. Although he's *actually* said he doesn't care what public opinion says about Iraq, that same public opinion will dictate whether he sticks around Washington for another term. Although... by its strictest definition, public opinion elected Al Gore in 2000.
Happy Hump Day.
