Birthday Madness
- Alex
We're gonna take today to celebrate all the birthdays that are going on in my life. The reason? Why not? Plus, it's the midpoint
between my sister's (11th) and my (16th) birthday. Well, it is if you squint. It's the midpoint day in which I also happen to be writing
the Gambit column for the site. So there. The sib sent me a nice little graphic with which to commemorate things:
You gotta love it. Wakko, Mitchell, Don Knotts, Jack Nicklaus (that's a Simpsons joke there), and the one, the
only Bronson Pinchot. All in varying degrees of party-down. So, in no particular order, Happy Birthday to: Becca, Kat,
Reed, Sis, Matt, Ping Daddy, and Jake. And I know I'm forgetting someone. Mike Scott maybe? My apologies to whoever
I omit - there are just too damn many of us. Just have a gander at Balkie in the party hat and all will be forgiven, no?
And it's really freaking me out, but that picture of Joe Don Baker looks like my dad from the 70s... sans moustache.
Eep.
I'm gonna celebrate by ranting briefly about the need for United States news media to be clever. Yesterday we had a
touch of bad weather up here. There was a lot of blowing and drifting snow, causing blizzard conditions in the countryside.
In my youth (oh so many years ago, I know), there'd have been an advisory for blowing and drifting snow, causing blizzard-
like conditions. Not yesterday. The weather report I saw called for a:
Land Blizzard!
I'm just going to assume that's nothing like a land shark. It's amazing, though. Wade A and I were lamenting this same
fact today after I forwarded him the link to the FBI's "Amerithrax" page. We presume it's the page dedicated to investigating
the Anthrax attacks on America. Just do a Google search for "FBI Amerithrax" and you'll get there. Wade lamented that the
"clever" take on it would be "Amthrax", but I maintain that's just a really really deadly train service. In any case, it's
all lame.
So... Happy Birthday Us! We rule.
