Two Bits
Alex - 01/23/03
Two wholly unrelated items for the gambit today:
1. Well it's abundantly clear that the heads of Fox and the WB are SP readers, and have conspired to mock my Tuesday nights. Last night's
episode of Gilmore Girls featured an appearance from one Mr. Billy Burke. I know, I know, you're saying "Who's that?". I know, it's fine. He's
nobody. Except that he also happens to play the scummy dad on "24". And now he's trying to play quirky, cute, attracted-to-Lauren-Graham guy on
Gilmore Girls. Which means on nights that both shows are new, he can pretty much cover the gamut in one two-hour stretch.
This development has apparently stupefied the sister sib. The only thing she could muster by way of comment was "icky". Honestly, I'd have
to agree. What's next? A turn by "Kirk" as a gun-toting loner on 24? They could have planned this a lot better.
And one other thing - I'm pretty sure Burke's hair was a lot shorter on 24. How does this work? Wouldn't they have had to be shooting episodes at
around the same time? How did he grow his hair out to that length so fast? I want answers.
In any case...
2. Those of you who know me, know that I've had cars with quirks. My first car had a driver's side door that wouldn't open from the outside.
I had to open 3 doors just to get in. The volume control was stuck on one volume. Thankfully it was rather mild. And the blinkers lit up, but didn't
blink. I had to move the stick back and forth to produce the desired effect. I named that car Floyd.
My current car, which I would call "The 'Bu" if that weren't a blatant rip off of Wade A's late 70s Malibu that he drove in high school, has from
day one, had Randy Moss blinkers. They blink when they want to blink. I could even go so far as to put a ratio on it. Roughly 70/30 working to
non-working. However... since we've hit our recent run of hideously cold weather... they've worked the whole damn time! I don't get it. Is there
anyone out there who can explain to me how cold weather somehow enhances quasi-functioning electronic wiring?
There's only one explanation for all of this. Namely, The Curse of Ozzie Guillen. It's alive and well. It's... a long story. We'll tell it
some other time. Have a good one kids.
