Lloyd McClendon: versatile, light-hitting C/OF/1B. Lloyd McClendon: the Craig Wilson of the late 80s. Lloyd McClendon: lifetime .430 manager. Lloyd McClendon: shown here stealing first.
Seriously, isn't that going to be the enduring legacy of the Lloyd McClendon era? Defined by the time he got so steamed up at the ump that he took his base and went home. I mean, it wasn't his base exactly, but you know what I mean. I suppose if you're gonna get the boot as a manager you might as well do something interesting. Especially if your team isn't particularly interesting. So he'll always have that, anyway.
Not much else to say about Lloyd's baseball career, or the picture on this card. It's pretty average. The world needs average guys, though. So be average! Hey, it's better than being awful.
Now this is good. Best back-of-card stat I've seen so far. In the '71 Little League World Series, Lloyd hit five first-pitch homeruns in five at-bats. Kind of hard to top, though. Way to go kid - you'll never do better in your whole life than you just did in little league. Good luck! Then again, a little quick research turns up this link (good story, by the way), which also tells us that Lloyd hit .625 in the playoffs as a big-leaguer, which ain't too shabby at all. So I think he did all right for himself.
That's all I got. Come back later.
